Indoor Gym | Exercise and Engaging Children

The literature is clear. There is a mind/body connection. Given that understanding, it is our belief that physical development and physical fitness deserve equal respect and attention along with the educational aspects of cognitive development!

When we promote physical fitness, we are, at the same time, promoting self-esteem, self-confidence, cognitive learning, cooperation, and a lot more. At Heritage Learning Academy, we strive to educate the whole child - the thinking, feeling and moving child.

In our indoor gym, children have the opportunity to explore and engage in activities that are different than those available to them on the playground.  For example, during the activity of doing the “Hokey Pokey”, children learn to follow directions, learn the concepts of “left” and “right”, move to rhythm and beat (precursors to math) while, at the same time, connecting to and exercising their bodies through music and movement.  And, most important of all, it is a time of laughter and just plain fun!

An added benefit of our gym is that children always have the opportunity to engage in daily physical movement activities outside of their classroom. Built into classroom schedules is playground time. However, on those days when it is too cold, raining, or too hot (that happens a lot here in Texas!) our children can go to the gym to burn off their boundless energy.
